I Made It Through Day One
First, it’s a bummer that Otis couldn’t be there today. He lost of member of his family and had to fly to the midwest for a funeral. Otis was looking forward to playing and I’m bummed he wasn’t there.
As for my round, let’s remember that last year I was awful. I was worse than awful actually, it was really Super-God-Awful.
So the bar was lower than a Ooopa Loompa limbo act. Luckily, I played better this time.
First round : 53. My first ever under-par tournament round. I started on the 12th hole with a birdie and the scorecard (starting on 1) looks like this :
3,4,3,3,3,2,2,2,4,4,3,2,4,3,2,3,3,3
The 4s on 2, 9, and 18 were all circled with penalty strokes for the creek. If I manage to stay dry, I’m -4 for the day.
One note about this round, I played with two guys who were throwing in their first ever tournament. Both played well and it’s good to see more people getting involved.
Like me last year, both of the newer players were worried about their scores. Hopefully, like me last year, they had fun regardless.
My goal, as I told Otis before the event, was to shoot under par each round this year. I managed to pull it off in round one. I failed in round two, but not by much.
Round Two : Even 54 (Started on the 11th, I’ll start the card at 1)
2,3,3,3,4,3,3,3,2,3,3,4,3,4,3,2,3,3
I was really happy to get out at even. I turned the 12th from a birdie into a bogey. I missed an EASY putt on 4. I hit the basket on a putt 10! (YES 10!) times! If half of those go in I’m having a monster round.
I think one thing to remember tomorrow is that I was underthrowing a lot of putts. I won’t make that mistake again.
Until tomorrow…
